Who is this?
Popokatepe is the mascot of the Amado Youth Alliance and was named after Popocatepetl, a volcano that is the second highest peak in Mexico. Popokatepe, being named by the Amado Youth Alliance is making a debut all around the town of Amado. In the coming months, Popokatepe's image will appear around town on walls, sidewalks, store windows and other places with information to remind youth and adults alike of the dangers of underage drinking and other drug abuse.
Keep an eye out for sightings of Popokatepe around Amado...and Sahuarita and Green Valley too!
The Amado Youth Alliance (AYA) is the youth group of the Amado Community Alliance, an extension of the Pima County Community Prevention Coalition (CPC). This project is funded by the Drug Free Communities Support Program, US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and administered through Compass Behavioral Health Care, Inc.
